Diversity Works Index

Diversity Works tracks how American organizations are performing when it comes to making and acting on DEI commitments. We look at the gender and racial and ethnic diversity of boards of directors and leadership teams.

Of the 10 largest public companies in the U.S., all but one (Berkshire Hathaway) has a diversity and inclusion statement posted on its website. We calculated the percentage of each company’s board and executive leadership that was comprised of white men in 2019 and 2020, as well as the change in that percentage. Green scores indicate that a board or executive team was more diverse in 2020 compared to 2019, yellow scores indicate no change, and red scores indicate that a board or executive team was less diverse in 2020 compared to 2019.
