ICYMI: Employee Resource Groups 101

Summary

Successful ERGs can help make your organization a more attractive workplace, improve employee retention, and enhance your business strategy.

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are one way to improve employee engagement and demonstrate your organization’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Successful ERGs can help make your organization a more attractive workplace, improve employee retention, and enhance your business strategy.  During our live event on April 20, 2023, Diversity Works managing partner Holly Wittenberg shared best practices and a few examples of companies using ERGs to reach their business goals.

What is an ERG?

An ERG is a group of employees who share a common identity or experience. ERGs are often associated with gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, or other shared identities. However, ERGs can be centered on career development, socializing, health and wellness, community service, or work/life balance.

As discussed during the live event, ERGs are one way to help your organization become more inclusive and competitive. ERGs can connect employees with each other, with the organization, and with resources outside of work that will help them grow professionally.

ERGs are also a great way for your organization to attract and retain top talent by showing that it cares about its employees’ well-being inside and outside the office.

Diversity Works created an ERG Checklist to help you launch a new ERG or improve an existing one. You can download that resource here. Join us on May 18, 2023, at 1:00 PM ET for our next live event, when we’ll dive into equitable benefit design. You can register for that event here

DIVERSITY WORKS EXCHANGE

The Diversity Works Exchange (DWX) is a learning collaborative that helps organizations set goals and improve performance around workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Our approach provides comparably situated, like-minded employers with a safe space to learn from DEI experts and interact with peers who are facing or are successfully addressing similar challenges.

The DWX is designed to help organizations improve across a wide range of DEI competencies, but each cohort selects its own priorities. Diversity Works creates a custom curriculum for each cohort and facilitates the learning process through a combination of online or in-person convenings, interactive webinars, and one-on-one coaching. We create a private, unlisted LinkedIn group for each cohort that allows participants to engage their peers and DEI experts at any time during their DWX term and beyond.

DEI LEADER NETWORK

The DEI Leader Network is a free resource for DEI professionals. We created the network because DEI leaders often feel isolated in their role and benefit from networking with their peers. To join the DEI Leader Network, please get in touch.
